How To Write Protect Your USB Drive In Easy Steps




You can write protect your USB drive in Windows PC using simple registry edit. We will run regedit.exe to open Windows Registry Editor and create key and assign value in specific location.



See the simple steps following.

1. Press Windows+R to open the run window. Type regedit in the open field and press enter to run the Registry Editor window.



2. Now, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SYSTEM -> CurrentControlSet -> Control.

3. Hover over the Control Folder that we navigated, right click the mouse and select New -> Key. When the Key is created, name it as StorageDevicePolicies.





4. Then again hover over the StorageDevicePolicies key and right click the mouse. Select New -> DWORD (32-bit) Value to assign value, name the new value as WriteProtect.

5. Double click on the WriteProtect that was created just now and provide its value as 1.

Bling, your USB flash drive is now write protected now!

To enable writing in the drive, you will need to navigate to the _LOCAL_MACHINE -> SYSTEM -> CurrentControlSet -> Control -> StorageDevicePolicies  -> WriteProtect and re-assign its value from as 0.
